The mystery of "Archive" in Gmail
Main Post:
As far as my eyes can see, all e-mails in Inbox can be set to or sent to "Archive". But what is Archive? Where is Archive? Is it a state or attribute of the e-mail that's been set as "Archive"? Or is it a place you can find in the navigation menu?
By contrast, most e-mails in the Sent folder (it's technically a "system label", not a folder) can be set to "Archive". But not all of them! You see some of the e-mails in the Sent folder don't have that option in the context menu when you right click on them, for they have "Move to inbox" in its stead. What the hell for? Their subject lines are clearly prefixed with "To:" so I know for sure they are e-mail I have sent and not e-mails I have received. When I check their details I can clearly see that my Gmail address is rightfully inserted in the "From:" field and this checks out with the "To:" prefix where the recipients e-mail address or name is indicated. So these e-mails, that are in the Sent folder... they have no business being sent to Inbox. Now... how do you send or set these as "Archvie"? When you are not presented with the option to do so?...
As an example, let's say you select one of your e-mails in Inbox, and you set it as "Archive". It disappears from Inbox. That's the effect of it, that's what "Archive" does, not what it is. To undo this, you have to go to the navigation menu on the left (I am assuming you are using Gmail on your computer), locate the "More" section, click on it, and then click on "All mail" (unless you have changed your settings so you don't have to click on "More" to display "All mail", but then you know what I'm talking about). Now you have to locate the e-mail that you have set as "Archive". There is no filtering option for locating and displaying only those e-mails marked as "Archive". So you have to know something about it beforehand, so you can do a search for it. Unless you don't mind eyeballing though a long list of "all mail" to locate that one e-mail that's God knows where in the list. Once you have found it, you can right click on it, and select "Move to inbox". It will be moved back to Inbox, so when you click on Inbox next time (now you're viewing "All mail"), you will be able to see it there. Now repeat this for the remaining... say 10 or 50 e-mails you once have marked as "Archive" and now want to undo that or you simply want to review what's in this "Archive" box... thing... whatever it's supposed to be. Have fun!
Now here's the kicker! If you have read this post this far, then you know you can select e-mails not only in Inbox but also in the Sent folder, and have them sent to "Archive" too. Now if you apply the steps from the example above to an e-mail in your Sent folder, it will disappear and you will be able to find it in "All mail" the same way. But you won't be able to return back to where you found it! Because remember, the option is "Move to inbox". There is no "Move to sent"! So how do you get it back to Sent folder? I haven't tried drag and dropping it in place. That might work. I know the "Move to" menu is of no use as it only lists user labels and other system labels, but not the Sent folder/label.
So where does that leave this whole "Archive" thing? Attribute?... what does it mean to an e-mail in Gmail to be marked as "Archvie"? Besides being sent off to "All mail"? If I drag it back and drop it over the Sent folder, will the "Archive" attribute become unset? Or is it still set, but just shows up in Sent? That's a question I would like to see Google Mail product team answer! This is one of the dumbest thing I have encountered in Gmail in my 15 years of use.
Assuming "Archive" is an attribute, why is there no "is:archive" operator that would allow me to easily locate this type of thing? Google has an extensive list of operators you can use in Gmail, including the very handy "is:unread" and even odd ones like "is:starred". But no "is:archive"? Why not? If it's a state or attribute of an e-mail similar to "starred" and "unread"?

I don't understand the "Archive" function in email apps. How do you all use yours?
Main Post:
Myke and Grey talk about email apps all the time, and every once in a while Mike mentions how he uses the archive function to store excess and low-priority emails that he wants to get out of the way. I always find this jarring because it's the polar opposite of the way I use it!
I use the Microsoft Outlook app on Android, and the archive feature is very easy to use: it can be enabled with swipe gestures, it's always present with a little button on the top right when an email is open, and there's an Archive folder near the top of the Favorites column on the left by default. To me, this always appeared as a quick and easy way to save emails in a specific folder, so I use it for the most important emails that I'll want quick and reliable access to in the future. Basically, the exact opposite of Myke!
So I'm wondering, is there something I'm missing? Am I using this wrong? I know at the end of the day it's up to me how I choose to use the features of my app, but I can't help but be curious. Other apps such as Gmail seem to handle archive in a vastly different manner: when I archive an email in Gmail it goes to a folder hidden far out of view and thus doesn't serve my purpose whatsoever.
How does your email app handle the archive feature, and how do you like to use it?

Well, then what do you do with the excess low-priority emails that you want out of the way, but not deleted?
If I have an actionable email, I'll capture the action in my to-do tool and delete the email if there isn't any other important info in it.
If there's something I specifically need for something, I'll save it in a note or PDF the email and put it in reference or project support.
But if it's an email that I don't really need and may never need (like a receipt for something, or a hotel confirmation for a trip that happened already, or someone giving me an FYI), but I don't want to delete it, I'll archive it.
That way if I actually need it later, I just search and there it is.
Halo Wars 2 3D models now in my archive! (UNSC Air / Ground units so far. Covenant are next!) https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=14eL-7Dl0alK2mVOEYqEdVY_ceUIkU66o : halomods

How do I use the Reddit Archive?
Main Post:
How do I use the files that have been archived? I have no knowledge other than using the wayback machine. However, for what I wish to do it is pretty useless, I think. Want to see if some of my now-deleted posts on a now-deleted account was archived or not. I only know the username, and do not remember any of the URLs.
How do I access the files? And, is it a simple process?
Thanks.
Top Comment: The archives are .warc files that have been ingested into the wayback machine, the only way to access them in a usable format is via the wayback There's also https://the-eye.eu/redarcs/ but that's organized by subreddit Have you tried checking reddit.com/user/youroldusername in the wayback machine?
Why would someone archive my reddit profile page?
Main Post:
There's 10 captures for my profile page and i don't get it. My posts are low quality straight dogshits. Why would they do that? I wanna know why. Are they stupid? I also kinda feel i should be more cautious to post something
Top Comment: Three things: If someone is doing it on purpose, it's because they value the stuff on your profile. If it's being done incidentally, you happened to be linked frequently enough (like in comments and stuff) to be caught by the IA's crawlers. If someone has the Internet Archive extension on, they may have automatic archival enabled and visited your profile, at which point your page was archived incidentally.
How to Archive my own posts on Reddit
Main Post:
I am looking for a way to capture and archive all my own posts and comments on Reddit. I know this has been asked, but I cannot find a post with a solution. I have used HTTrack , but I am not sure how to use it surgically like this (I really don't want to accidentally try to capture all of Reddit)
Top Comment: You don't need to do all that, just request your data from reddit.
